Love is the expression of the one who loves, not of the one who is loved. Those who think they can love only the people they prefer do not love at all. Love discovers truths about individuals that others cannot see.

WHEN SOMEONE IS CONDESCENDING ABOUT MY FIELD OF STUDY

This is what I want to say to everyone when they make Judgey McJudgerson faces at me when they find out I’m in seminary.

How I react every time I see someone walking their dog.

Whole 30 - day 4

Yesterday I went to Stanley’s Produce and Peoria Packing to get produce and meat. Spent $35 and walked away with a ton of food. It is definitely going to be helpful shopping at these places during this whole 30, since meat and veggies are so expensive everywhere else!

I heard that Whole Foods has bacon that I might be able to eat. So that’s good. Not that I NEED bacon in my life, but I hadn’t found it anywhere else.

This afternoon I’m going to attempt to cook for a few days. At least for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. It’s going to be hard, but I think I can do it. I just hope there is space in the fridge and my roommates haven’t taken up all of the Tupperware…

Whole 30 - Day 3

Well, day 3 was pretty easy. According to my fitness pal (an awesome app btw and they have running/walking apps that automatically sync so you don’t have to worry about transferring the information) I am not eating enough. But I have been full after almost every meal. Ok, there have been a few meals I’ve basically eaten vegetables for dinner because I’m having to run around or traveling. I guess I’ll have to start eating more? It’s hard though. I have had to resist the urge to weigh myself every day. I know you aren’t supposed to weigh yourself until the end of the Whole 30, but I think I’m going to do weekly check-ins.

Last night my roommate celebrated her birthday at Hopleaf, a restaurant/bar in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago. They have about 40 beers on tap, and close to 200 in bottles. (I think.) I hadn’t seen a lot of those friends since starting Whole 30, so I had to explain to them why I wasn’t drinking. I didn’t really miss it though. And I saved the $20 I would have spent on drinks. I was running late from work and I didn’t have time to make dinner. So I threw a bag of baby carrots and a few sugar snap peas in my purse and ate them on the way. Since we were sitting in the bar area, I didn’t feel bad about snacking on them during the evening.

I need to find something else I can bring for days like that so I don’t just eat baby carrots for dinner again.

Like I said, this hasn’t really had any withdrawals for me yet. I did have a pretty…graphic dream about a sandwich last night though. I just remember I was having lunch with a friend and she ordered a sandwich with the best looking sourdough bread I’ve ever seen. I think this is the first time I’ve dreamt about bread before. Guess there’s a first for everything!

Whole 30 - day 2

I haven’t experienced any of the withdrawal symptoms that I’ve read other people experience. I’m hoping that I won’t….

Last night I had to go to the grocery store to get food because my I had been gone for nearly a week and didn’t have any fresh meat/veggies/fruit. $90 later, I’m stocked up on food for the next few days as well as coconut milk/oil, pistachios & ghee.

Dinner last night was chicken sausage from TJ’s, sautéed mushrooms, tomato & garlic. It was already about 9pm when I got home from the store, so I didn’t want to spend time trying out a new recipe. I think I’m going to have to limit how many avocados I eat.

Breakfast was simple (and extremely late since I am still adjusting to the time change). I cooked a turkey cutlet in half of the pan while sautéing mushrooms, garlic and spinach in the other half. Had some tomato & avocado to fill out my plate. Chai tea with coconut milk instead of coffee. I didn’t feel like dealing with coffee this morning, but I think I’ll enjoy the switch from creamer to coconut milk even in my coffee.

Tonight I am dog-sitting and house-sitting for a friend, which means I had to pack dinner, breakfast and lunch for tomorrow. This isn’t something that I would normally do, and instead just buy meals out.

Still feeling pretty good about this, but I know the hardest days haven’t arrived yet.

Whole30 Shenanigans - Day 1

Right. So add this to the many tumblr posts about Whole30. People say it isn’t a diet, but let’s be real. This is definitely a diet. Not eating anything but vegetables, protein and fruit is absolutely a weight loss program. No one does this to gain weight.

My friend Megan started this, so I decided to join her. I don’t have food allergies like she does, but I am all about losing the weight. The first day was yesterday, and I’m going to try and keep a log of my activity/how I feel. Maybe I’ll post some pictures of food. I do love Instagram, after all.

Starting weight: 198.00 lbs

I’ve been this weight (give or take 10 lbs) for years. I’ve never put the actual work into losing the weight I gained after I stopped playing soccer in high school…7 years ago. So this is me starting that work. We’ll see what happens. They say you aren’t supposed to weigh yourself during the Whole30, but I’ll probably do it once a week.

Yesterday was pretty easy (food-wise). Breakfast: veggies, eggs, salsa, black coffee, orange. Lunch: cold chicken, green bell pepper slices, apple, cashews. Dinner: Beef & broccoli stir fry. The hardest part was denying myself the delicious snacks that my sister & brother-in-law have in their apartment. [Right now this airport smells like egg mcmuffins, which is not fair.]

I think after a week of this, I’m going to get really bored.

NOTD: Revlon’s Fierce.

Thia nail polish is ah-mazing! It is purple with silver glitter. I really love wearing this polish color when I want something a little shimmery but not a full on glitter polish. Plus, the Revlon polishes are ridiculously amazing! Same high quality as the more.expensive brands. The only problem is that I don’t think their color selection is very extensive…but that’s ok. (:

I hope you all had a happy, safe and wonderful thanksgiving! I am out in Cali visiting my sister and brother-in-law. And today is my birthday! I am so glad that I get to spend it out here where the weather is perfect!
